Intercultural Framework

Ting Toomey beleives that cultural knowledge, mindfulness, and facework interaction skill are three necessities for communicating effectivly with other cultures.

Ø
Knowledge: Most important dimension of face-work. Having the knowledge of another individual helps you become aware of the typical reactions and expressions received, which in turn gives a specific instinct on how to respond.

Ø  Mindfulness: This shows recognition that most things are not always the way they might seem. In all mindfulness means to be aware of one’s as well as our own assumptions, viewpoints and ethnocentric tendencies when interacting in an unfamiliar situation.

Ø Interaction Skill: The ability to communicate adequately, adaptively, and effectively in a typical or unfamiliar situation. It is crucial to be able to harness this characteristic when interacting with others that you may be friends with, or never been acquainted to because it will only further the cohesiveness and skill level that an individual communicates and interacts with others.
